New York Yankees – Jeter Back?

The New York Yankees are pegging along in the AL East. Not doing really well. But the Yankees aren’t out of it either. As it stands now New York is six games out of 1st place behind the Red Sox. But they’re 2.5 games behind the 2nd place Tampa Bay Rays and only a half game behind the Baltimore Orioles. So all is not lost. New York has been scrappy all season by rights should be in even worse shape.

So with the news of Derek Jeter possibly coming back soon should we be happy. You’d think so wouldn’t you? Isn’t it time the New York Yankees got some big name talent back on the field? Shouldn’t the return of a bona fide superstar get our juices flowing? Yes it should. But there is a real question concerning Derek Jeter. First of all we have to wonder if the Yankees have the luxury of playing a less than optimal Jeter in this crucial time. Secondly, Derek Jeter hasn’t been all that optimal the last few seasons, healthy or not.

Just recently, watching Derek Jeter playing in the minors has been a tough thing to watch. His most recent performance included more errors than made plays. Nevertheless I think the Yankees are going to try to get him on the field sooner, rather than later. Not sure it’s a good idea baseball wise but there are thousands of Yankees ticket holders who could argue the point with me. Maybe a shakeup of the roster, a little confidence boost from a returning here, can help the New York Yankees break out of the doldrums and put themselves in position for a season ending run. Jeter will have to knock off plenty of rust but the gamble may be worth it. Being in 4th place the Yankees don’t have a lot to lose.
