“The nearer your destination the more you’re slip sliding away” – Paul Simon
That attitude certainly rings true for the New York Yankees of late. Midway through the season I was thinking the Yankees would make a race of it in the AL East, challenging the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Now they’ve managed to hit a lull, losing seven of the last 10 games. Could this be the year the Yankees finally sit home. Wouldn’t they love that in Beantown?
Right now, the Rays command the division with 72 wins. Boston isn’t that far behind at 70, but New York lags the leaders by eight games. Injuries have taken their toll and there’s no relief in sight.Eric Drouant
