Yankees – Red Sox Heating Up

by on August 13, 2009 updated August 13, 2009

The great thing about the Yankees – Red Sox rivalry is that it’s become so open. For years the Yankees were dealing out heartbreak to the Sox. Then Boston rose to the top, won the World Series and basically breathed life into what had become a somewhat stale iconoc matchup. After all it isn’t a rivalry if one team wins all the time.

Now the 2009 MLB season has ignited even more of a fire under the whole Red Sox- Yankees thing. Boston was dominant early in the season, running off a string of victories over their pinstriped opponents. Talk was that Boston would waltz into the pre-season as the favorite. The Latest Yankees surge though, has put and end to that and started some serious fingernail biting in Beantown.

The Yankees have gotten good mileage out of their expensive offseason additions for a change, and look capable of winning the AL East handily. Now six games behind New York, the Red Sox look vulnerable. It isn’t over yet but the teeter totter AL East is going to get very interesting as the season moves into it’s final phase.
