Right off the bat I’d like to say that I believe the Minnesota Vikings will be in contention for a playoff spot in 2010. This comes despite the fact the Vikings appear to be somewhat crippled right now. But while Minnesota is a strong team they aren’t a team with clear leadership, or at least it’s not coming through clearly. As the Saints and Vikings battled it out in the NFL Kickoff Classic some things became obvious.
1) Brett Favre isn’t at his sharpest. That’s what happens when you miss training camp.
2) The O-line has some work to do. Injuries have taken their toll.
3) The receiver situation for the Vikings isn’t too good. Rice needs to get back healthy.
4) Adrian Peterson needs to step up.
Finally, the lack of leadership and coaching acumen from Childress puts the Minnesota Vikings at a disadvantage when it comes to playing top tier teams. The guy just can’t ignite a spark. Unless I’m missing something the players will have to find inspiration from each other.
