Talk about your payday. Minnesota Twins tickets just became practically the sole property of one player. Joe Mauer just signed with the Twins on a deal that will keep him in the Land of lakes for another eight years. And all it cost the Minnesota Twins was a mere $118 million. You read that right. $118 million. at $23 million a year, Joe Mauer now has the onus of bringing the Twins to the World Series practically singlehandedly. It’s the two-edged sword of the big contract. If you have an off year in the MLB, and don’t take your team to the Woreld Series, you’re a target for criticism. So far I haven’t seen any major criticism of the Minnesota Twins over this but the question is not if, but when, the barbs start.
