There are two teams residing in the NBA Pacific Division that have shown themselves willing to take a chance and win the whole enchilada. The Los Angeles Lakers now have Pau Gasol, giving them another dangerous threat to compliment Kobe Bryant. The Phoenix Suns have taken a gamble that Shaq can put them in contention in the Western Conference. Sometimes gambles pay off and sometimes they don’t. But the message of management is the same. “We’re willing to go out on a limb.”
Looking at both trades I like Pau Gasol better. He gives the Lakers a two position player with enough career left ahead of him to make it worthwhile. Shaq is kind of an all or nothing deal. If they’re going to win with him it has to be soon because his age and history of injury are catching up with him quickly.
