Folks with U.S. Open tickets got a big thrill yesterday as one of the greatest tennis champions ever to play the game put on a clinic. Serena Williams put the stop to Carolina Wozniaki at the U.S. Open, pushing herself into the finals in a year where she was expected to have difficulty.
Wozniacki was the top seed in the U.S. Open, and experts had her penciled in as the player to beat on the women’s side. Williams came into the tournament with low hopes, caused by injuries and some uneven temper tantrums.
But it was Serena Williams who kept her cool in this match, playing almost flawless tennis. I guess people forget that Williams has played in six matches so far and lost a grand total of 0 sets and only six games. It’s the kind of performance Serena Williams fans have come to anticipate.
Williams will now line up against Sam Stosur to play for another U.S. Open title. Who’da thunk it?
