For some time now it’s been evident that the road to the Super Bowl in the AFC goes through the New England Patriots. Tom Brady has his offense clicking and the Patriots defense has been in takeaway mode for some time now. But there’s always the brash upstart somewhere in the NFL and the New York Jets now find themselves in position to knock off the most successful team in the NFL. Rex Ryan loves it.
From the outside the New York Jets have little chance. Quarterback play and experience is solidly in the Patriots’ camp. Sanchez has potential but Brady has done it. Defensively the Jets match up fairly well, but when it comes to scheming a defense, Belichick has few equals in the NFL.
I do give the New York Jets some props though. NFL football can often be a game of wills and endurance. It also often turns on the turnover game and that’s as unpredictable as anything. The New York Jets need to keep pace, hold Brady with pressure, and get a turnover or two. If they can do that they have a good chance of playing in the AFC Championship game. But it won’t be easy.
