If there’s a guy in the NFL who currently is badly in need of redemption it’s Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Bruised and battered by accusations of assault, his senses questioned by a dumb motorcycle accident, Big Ben is gasping for the air of respectability. But it won’t come anytime soon. The fastest way for an NFL player to re-gain respect is by his performance on the field. But with the NFL forcing Roethlisberger to sit out six games, don’t expect him to achieve any kind of Phoenix-like resurrections in the near future.
Roethlisberger does have one thing going for him. He’s won two Super Bowl titles. If the Pittsburgh Steelers have any intention of trading Roethlisberger they won’t find any shortage of teams interested in him. Somehow, when a player can take you to the Super Bowl, a whole basket of sins can be forgiven. The question now becomes: Can Ben Roethlisberger keep his nose clean?Eric Drouant
