The Oklahoma City Thunder are on the verge of knocking off the San Antonio Spurs for the right to play for an NBA Championship. This is a surprise for those of us, and there were plenty of us, who took one look at San Antonio’s 20-game winning streak and pronounced them unbeatable. But the Thunder now need only one more win with two games left to play and the next game is in Oklahoma City where the Thunder have yet to lose in the post-season.
With a three-game winning streak under their belts it’s now Oklahoma City that has the edge and the Spurs are on their heels. Kevin Durant is doing what he’s supposed to do, which is leading the Thunder to an NBA Finals. Durant knocked down 27 points in last night’s 108-103 victory in San Antonio. With Russell Westbrook adding 23 the Oklahoma City Thunder have a combo that can be contained but throttled. Physical, high speed, and high endurance, the Thunder have taken their game to new levels. It’s going to be interesting to see whether San Antonio can find an answer to this team, one that can give them back to back wins, especially that all important game on the road.Eric Drouant
