Reeling Cubs Await Elimination

by on October 3, 2008 updated October 3, 2008

Well, so much for a Chicago Cubs – Chicago White Sox World Series contest. The Cubs have now been soundly beaten by the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are up 2-0 in the series. For the struggling Cubs, who looked like shoo-ins heading into the playoffs, it’s the same old song. I suspect we’ll see a rally in the last game, but winning the final two in Dodger Stadium seems too much to ask. Strangely enough, the Cubs are making dumb mistakes they haven’t made all year. Four errors in last night’s game put the Dodgers way ahead and kept them there.

Meanwhile the Piladelphia Phillies are crushing the Milwaukee Brewers, and angling for their own World Series spot. C.C. Sabathia has been ineffective and the Phillies bats are hot enough to keep them going.
