The 50th Daytona 500 will be remembered as a race where a long suffering long shot made his mar. It will also be remembered for the number of penalties being doled out for race teams with infractions. 10 teams have been hit with fines and point deductions. As the Auto Club 500 and the UAW-Dodge 400 approach, the rankings have taken a major shift. Escaping unscathed did more for man teams than the race itself.
As NASCAR becomes more competitive it seems as if the number of crimes increases. Maybe it’s time to start doling out harsher penalties. Cheating, whether it be steroids in the MLB and NFL or technical cheating in NASCAR, can destroy any sport.
