If you want to be the best you have to beat the best. The Oklahoma City Thunder look like they’re going to do just that. After running out to a 2-0 lead in their series with the LA Lakers, the Thunder went into the Staples Center….and lost Game 3. At that time things were highly in doubt. It wouldn’t be unusual for LA to come back in a bug way, stripping the newly minted NBA hopefuls of their dreams.
But the Oklahoma City Thunder weren’t having any of it. In a statement game, the Thunder returned to the Staples Center on a mission and beat the Lakers on their own turf, 103-100 in a close game that now has the Lakers on a death watch. It also means that fans with Oklahoma City Thunder tickets to Game 5 will probably get to see their hometown heroes seal the deal. If not in Game 5 then in game 6.
This Thunder team just looks too together for the Lakers to deal with. Running a close game in the 4th, Kevin Durant comes through with a big 3-point shot that put the onus on LA to match him. And they couldn’t. Though Kobe Bryant turned in another good performance, scoring 38 points and grabbing 8 rebounds, his supporting cast just isn’t providing much support. While Durant can rely on guys like Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka, Bryant must essentially carry the Lakers.
So fans in Oklahoma should get ready to enjoy their Thunder tickets one more time as it looks very likely their team will advance into the Conference Finals for the second season in a row.
