The New Orleans saints are coming off of a terrible loss to the New York Jets last week. The Saints played badly against a Jets offense that hasn’t been productive and features an erratic rookie quarterback. New Orleans defense should be looking for some kind of redemption against the Cowboys. The Saints offense should be able to produce against the Dallas defense which has had big time trouble against the pass. The Saints are pass happy. But that pass happy offense might be hampered if Darren Sproles and Jimmy Graham aren’t up to speed. Furthermore the New Orleans Saints, who at one time had a three game lead in the NFC South, have watched that lead evaporate into a single game lead over the suddenly proficient Carolina Panthers. New Orleans need this win to keep their edge.
The Dallas Cowboys are in a similiar position. Late game heroics last week have given them a one game lead over the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East. The Cowboys will be trying to build on that lead in the Superdome, which is not the easiest place to play. If Dallas is smart they’ll try and get a brutal running game going against a Saints defense that gave up 200 yards rushing to the Jets. That will control the clock and keep the ball away from Drew Brees.
Down the line this game could have some playoff implications also as both the Saints and Cowboys are in the NFC. The division races are starting to shape up and the NFL season is already heading into the second half. Now is the time to get your act together and build a winning streak and momentum for the playoffs.
