In the NFL, we’re pretty used to seeing guys get fired at the end of the season. Some teams will even hand someone their walking papers mid-season. But this is the first time I can remember three guys getting their heads chopped off one week prior to opening day. This week in the NFL:
The Buffalo Bills fired O-Coordinator Turk Schonert.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers fired O-Coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski.
The Kansas City Chiefs fired O-Coordinator Chan Gailey.
Man, it just doesn’t pay to be an offensive coordinator in the NFL these days. I remember when it was a path to becoming a head coach. Now it looks like the first step out the door. Three guys is almost 10% of the coordinators in the NFL. Wait, unemployment is running at about the same rate. Honestly, I’d say these guys probably got a head start on the competition for next year. None of these teams are expected to be super powers.
