The Miami Dolphins are certainly making news. Unfortunately it’s not the kind of news they’d like to make. What we’re seeing is a constant barrage of reports about the accusations of Jonathan Martin towards his teammate Richie Incognito and his claims that incognito harrased him to the point where Martin felt he had no choice but to leave the team.
He said, he said that. We don’t know the truth and we probably never will. All we hear is second hand reports and one-sided second hand reports at that. But there’s something getting lost here.
The Miami Dolphins are in a pretty good spot to actually make the playoffs. True, they won’t catch up with the New England Patriots and win the division. But looking around you can see that they aren’t far behind any of the teams that are in line for Wild Card spots.
The Dolphins are 4-4 and right behind the 5-4 New York Jets. The Cleveland Browns are 4-5. The Tennessee Titans are 4-4. The San Diego Chargers are 4-4. Assume that the Broncos or Chiefs will claim one spot. That leaves the Miami Dolphins in the running for the last Wild Card position.
Of course it’s way too early to be calling this. But what we wonder is whether or not the Miami Dolphins can overcome the turbulence and put together enough wins to be in the running at the end. This is the kind of thing that tears teams apart. It’s a shame for Dolphins ticket holders but it will be very interesting to see how the Miami Dolphins respond to this kind of controversy. If it doesn’t kill you it makes you stronger. Or something like that.
