Each and every year the NFL Draft provides us with plenty of debate. Which players will come in and make a major impact on their team? With quarterback naturally drawing the most attention, in 2009 the answer to that question might be found with two teams. The New York Jets went out of their way in the draft to get Mark Sanchez of USC. Sanchez drew the ire of Pete Carrol by going pro but you can’t blame the kid. Now we’ll found out if carrol was right when he said Sanchez just wasn’t ready for the NFL. He’s certainly in a pressure cooker in New York.
The next big rookie quarterback to affect his team’s play will be Mark Stafford. The Detroit Lions were desperate for better quarterback play. They’ve got a potentially good quarterback. It’s certainly hard to argue the pick. My only real question is how awful will the team around Stafford be? I don’t care who’s behind the line. The Lions need to gibe Stafford a supporting cast or face the charge that they would have been better off trading the pick and building an overall better squad.
