Payton Manning has to be a man on a mission. Can you imagine his mindset? The Broncos are setting up to face the Indianapolis Colts, the team that released Manning in 2011 after a Hall of fame career. If you think this game doesn’t mean some sort of payback opportunity for Manning you’d better think again, though he wouldn’t ever say it.
This game, along with the Cowboys-Packers meeting, figures to be one of the best matchups of the weekend. The Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts split wins in 2014, with each claiming victory at home. Andrew Luck and Payton Manning are fairly even in touchdowns and yardages against each other. The Broncos have had two weeks of rest, the Colts are humming along after a win over the Bengals.
Take from it what you will, but Payton Manning now generates an air of urgency. He’s been at the top of the NFL but winning another Super Bowl is an opportunity that won’t present itself much longer. The Broncos signed him to win a Super Bowl. Manning picked the Broncos because he felt it gave him the best chance to win a Super Bowl. The chance to get back and win a Super Bowl is two games away. To make the leap back, Manning must now beat his replacement, the quarterback who pushed him out of Indianapolis.
It kind of sets up a great game.Eric Drouant
