It’s hard to look at this NFL division and pick anyone other than the Seahawks. The other teams just have too many problems to seriously consider them as upset candidates.
Seattle Seahawks – Multiple reason for the Seahawks to reign supreme. First, this is Mike Holmgrens final year and all the stops will be pulled out. Then there’s the Seahawks defense which should repeat in the Top Ten of the NFL. Finally, Matt Hasselbeck is entering the prime of his career.
Arizona Cardinals – The cardinals have been down so long they’ll have to prove they’re real. Still, they could be a better team in 2008 if the QB situation settles out and Boldin and Fitzgerald stay healthy. They were definitely on the upswing last season.
St. Louis Rams – After going 3-13 the Rams have a lot to improve on. Getting some players back from injury should help. But Marc Bulger has to have a better year and if Orlando Pace returns healthy St. Louis could contend. Maybe.
San Francisco 49ers – The 49ers have two things going for them: Frank Gore and Mike Martz. But even Martz needs some talent and the 49ers don’t have any dangerous receivers anymore. Vernon Jordan could also kick start an anemic passing game in the Martz system.
