NFC South – Saints Rise Again?

by on July 4, 2008 updated April 19, 2014

New Orleans Saints – The Saints fell hard in 2007 after finishing in the NFC Championship, one game shy of the Super Bowl. Defensive woes and injury derailed their trip. Two factors will determine their succes in 2008. Have the Saints done enough to improve their porous defense? Will Deuce come back in good shape?

Carolina Panthers – The Panthers used their draft to go back to basics, mainly drafting a running back (Jonathan Stewart) and beefing up the O-Line with Jeff Otah. Just as important will be the return of Jake Delhomme and his Tommy John shoulder.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers – The Bucs should be favored to win the NFC South but aren’t. Lingering questions at the QB position, where Jeff Garcia looks to be the leader, and the doubt surrounding Cadillac Williams have them pegged as maybe.  Throw in the fact that no team has repeated as NFC South Champion in a decade and it looks like the Bucs could play second fiddle.

Atlanta Falcons – Too early in the rebuild process to expect much. Still, they’ll be interesting if only because Matt Ryan offers so much potential.
