Since the Boston Celtics brought home an NBA Championship last season, the dreamers in New England have been fantasizing about a repeat. It’s a strong possibility, and some would say a probability. But Boston now faces some major hurdles that may not have been apparent at the outset. The first of these is the Chicago Bulls. In action many would have deemed highly unlikely, the Bulls rode the back of rookie Derrick Rose to take a 105-103 overtime win away from the Celtics.
Granted, the Bulls will probably need an increasingly strong performance from Rose to continue. He won’t sneak up on them twice. More to the point, Chicago will need stronger performances from the supporting cast to continue. But what this victory does is bring the chance of Chicago advancing well into the realm of possibility, something very few would have forecast as late as last week. Frankly, the Celtics are missing Kevin Garnett and need to step it up if they don’t want their season to end early than anyone anticipated.
