I just looked at the standings in the NBA. The Boston Celtics now have an amazing 22 game lead over the next closest team in their division, which is the Toronto Raptors. To me, outclassing everyone in your division to that extent is a mixed bag. Yes, you get to cruise through the rest of the season. Yes, you can rest key people. But does the lack of urgency at the end of the season take away from your performance in the playoffs? Does an NBA team suffer from a lack of pressure while teams battling to the bitter edge become honed and hardened by adversity? These are the questions that keep me from moving up the organizational ladder.
