Should Kyle Busch be thrown out for the rest of the NASCAR season? Are the people who buy NASCAR tickets ready for that kind of punishment. Having been fined 50k and removed from one race, should the good folks at NASCAR now move to get rid of him for the rest of the season or more? Of course they won’t. If there’s anything an organization like NASCAR loves, it’s a good controversy. In fact, it’s a sponsors dream.
Is there any better way to make money than to have thousands of maniac fans, on one side of the fence or another, frothing at the mouth over such a divisive issue. As for me, I love it. It inspires endless debate, makes the sport of auto racing self-promoting, and catapults NASCAR into the realm of a philosophical discussion. For instance: Should a NASCAR driver do whatever it takes to win in a brutal and dangerous sport? For that matter should a football player hit an opponent as hard as he can or just hard enough to tackle him? Stupid questions maybe, but in a sport as dangerous as NASCAR should behavior like Busch displayed be banned?
You won’t find any of the fans buying NASCAR tickets able to look at this objectively. He either stays or goes. It makes for good copy, and that my friends, is what it’s all about.Eric Drouant
