You gotta love the way things are going for Danica Patrick. The girl has done some amazing things, breaking into the auto racing circuit dominated by men and actually proving herself to be a competitive force. OK, so she hasn’t been a consistent enough winner to reach any kind of hall of fame, but still, she’s done several things no other woman has done.
The list of accomplishments got a little bit longer this week as Patrick managed to become the first woman to win the Daytona 500 pole position. Patrick is taking the whole thing as a piece of a larger pie, one that gets eaten by everyone.
“I was brought up to be the fastest driver, not the fastest girl,” she said. “That was instilled in me from very young, from the beginning. Then I feel like thriving in those moments, where the pressure’s on, has also been a help for me. I also feel like I’ve been lucky in my career to be with good teams and have good people around me. I don’t think any of it would have been possible without that.”
Patrick has had plenty of attention wherever she goes and now she;ll probably garner just a little more. The position doesn’t really give her any advantage but it sure doesn’t hurt either. At some point Danica Patrick will win one of the big ones in NASCAR and for her it will be just another notch on the handle.
