So I’m beginning to wonder about this whole Dale Earnhardt Jr. thing. I have no problem with the fans who get NASCAR tickets just to see Dale Earnhardt Jr.. If you like the way a guy handles himself on the track and you’ve got some connection to him, that’s great. Pull for Dale Earnhardt Jr., buy NASCAR gear with his number, get a NASCAR tattoo with the sponsor of Dale Earnhardt Jr., do whatever blows your skirt up, as my friend Red says.
But I’m beginning to believe that’s it’s time NASCAR fans who love Dale Earnhardt Jr. begin to come back down to earth with the expectations that one day old Dale is going to wake up and take the world of NASCAR by storm, win every race, and hoist The Cup at the end of the Chase. I just don’t see that happening.
A more realistic approach for NASCAR ticket holders is to see Dale Earnhardt Jr. as an annual favorite underdog. That way, when he wins a race or two on the way to a mediocre finish, you can be really happy. I ain’t hatin’ on Dale, I’m just saying it’s time to enjoy what you can and maybe stop praying for that miracle Dale Earnhardt Jr. domination thing that’s been going on.
