(and Lady Luck)
If you’ve been on the road and you’ve been losing, sometimes what you need to get the ball rolling is just a little extra push and a little extra luck. We forget sometimes that even in pro basketball, a little luck can be the deciding factor in winning games. Get on a roll and have the ball bounce your way and you’re in the drivers seat. Have it go the other way and no matter what you do it turns out bad.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been seeing tough times on the road, losing six out of their last seven travel games. But this games against the Boston Celtics seems to have snapped that streak and put a little winning magic back in their swagger. In the big picture a superb game from Pau Gasol is what it took to top the Celtics but in the end it all came down to one play, a little extra effort, and a smidgeon of luck. Gasol found himself in the right spot to block a Ray Allen putback after a Paul Pierce shot, keeping the ball away from the net and pushing the Lakers to an 88-87 win that was sorely needed.
It wasn’t the greatest game in the world for Lakers fans or Celtics fans with both teams shooting poorly. But a win is a win is a win and Lakers tickets holders will take what they can get at this point. In a season of change for Los Angeles, things may be jelling back into Lakers basketball. Which is good for the NBA and sets things up nicely for some big games down the road.
