Jay Cutler – Who’s to Blame?

by on April 2, 2009 updated April 19, 2014

I’m finding the whole Jay Cutler issue difficult to swallow. From both sides. First of all Cutler is a quarterback who’s shown some real promise. This is what disturbs me about the Denver Broncos willingness to deal him away. On the other hand he does have some health issues, which haven’t seemed to be a problem but who knows? On the other hand, his rabid and somewhat childlike response to the idea that he may be traded could perhaps be an indication of a personality trait Broncos management finds unnaceptable. Any NFL player worth his salt can be traded. The only players that can’t be traded get cut. It’s a business.

Meanwhile, which teams might be interested? Off the top of my head I’d say Detroit Lions (somewhat obviously), Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers (maybe). There are a slew of teams that could use improvement at the QB position out there. Add the Bears, Vikings, and a couple others. Some of these teams carry high picks into the NFL draft. It could be smart to swap the pick for a proven commodity, not a great commodity yet, but certainly a quarterback who’s proven he can play in the NFL. None of the youngsters on the board have done that yet.
