The Jacksonville Jaguars could certainly use Maurice Jones-Drew in their running game. In fact, there’s not an NFL team out there that wouldn’t drool at the thought of having the UCLA product in their backfield. Jones-Drew has been a 1,000+ yard ball carrier for three consecutive seasons now and in 2011 he produced a career best 1,606 yards on the ground. What more could you ask for?Maurice Drew-Jones has, at the very least, earned some respect.
So why the Jags owner would come out and say that his holdout was of absolutely no concern, in so many words is, beyond me. How about something like this? “We would love to have Maurice in camp but this is a business and we’re confident we can work things out?” See how easy that is?
The NFL is a league where the least bit of competitive edge can mean the difference between success and dismal failure. Having Drew-Jones in your backfield is a definite edge.
So my nomination for The Stupidest Thing Said this Week in the NFL goes to Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan for saying the absence of Drew-Jones “doesn’t even move the needle” on his concern meter.
