It seems that hanging on to #1 these days is a tough job. In the second upset of top ranked team this season, the Kentucky Wildcats knocked off the LSU Tigers 43-37 on Saturday. To further befuddle the pollmakers, the #2 California Golden Bears also took a hit, losing to Oregon State 31-28. As I’ve noted before in this column, college football tickets are always good for an upset. This season it seems to be especially true as 10 teams ranked #10 or higher have fallen to unranked teams.
The latest plunge from glory means that the Ohio State Buckeyes are likely to assume the crown in this week’s AP poll. The way things are going in this campaign, it’s not a spot with much security.
