You can pick your heroes in the golf world. Many went the Tiger Woods route and for a long time it was a good one. Tiger set himself up as the best of the best, not only as a golfer but as a person with no faults. Unfortunately for golf fans that world came crashing down. Tiger is now in seclusion, reportedly prepping himself for a comeback, but with an image that’s been tarnished.
John Daly on the other hand, has at least been honest. A virtual tornado of madness, Daly has ripped apart the gold world with unconventional and seemingly unforgivable behavior. But at least he’s been honest. Nowhere will you find John Daly setting himself up as an role model. The guy has logged over 400 pages in his PGA behavior file. But at least he’s been honest.
To me, John Daly appears human. Tiger Woods elevated himself above the average guy, fell victim to his own humanity, and now is paying the price. Daly I can relate to. Perfection I can’t. But maybe we’ll see Tiger Woods and John Daly at the Arnold Palmer Invitational come March 25th. But mayne not.Eric Drouant
