As i enough hasn’t happened in 2007, college football tickets delivered another upset this weekend, in a year already distinguished by an unmatvhed series of stunners. The #6 South Carolina Gamecocks and Steve Spurrier took it on the chin with a 17-6 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Gamecocks built a 17-0 lead by halftime and then used a series of turnovers by their maligned defense to shut down The Old Ball Coach and a turnstile of quarterbacks.
By my count that’s a dozen upsets of top ranked teams so far in 23007. It seems like hanging around the top of the BCS poll isn’t a real healthy thing to do. Where will it all end? In more controversy over the selection of the #1 and #2 teams to meet in the BCS Championship. Unless Ohio State can roll through undefeated, the kings of college football have their work cut out for them.Eric Drouant
