Drew Brees – The Baby Daddy — And Other Stuff in the NFL

by on August 26, 2014 updated August 26, 2014

New Orleans Saints fans found another reason to pay attention to Drew Brees last night as Brees and his wife welcomed a baby daughter to their family. Brees missed a practice, but after missing two weeks of practice, he looked sharp against the Colts so it’s probably not going to destroy the Saints’ season. No word on a name yet.

The Rams made their cuts and Michael Sams is still on the roster.

The Seattle Seahawks are in the spotlight, having been fined by the NFL for allowing too much contact at practice. Reports are that the total for the Seahawks and Pete Carroll are around $300,000.

The New England patriots traded offensive lineman Logan Mankins to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Tight End Tim Wright and a 4th Round pick. Obviously, the Buccaneers needed offensive line help. They brought in Rich Incognito earlier in the week. I wonder though, whether the Patriots are looking for more backup in case Rob Gronkowski can’t be ready for the opener. The trade makes me think he won’t be.

Roster Cuts

The Miami Dolphins released quarterback Brady Quinn, a former 1st Round pick.

The New Orleans Saints released linebacker Victor Butler, who came over from the Dallas Cowboys with Rob Ryan in 2013. Butler has been plagued with injuries and with the Saints defense markedly improved without him, New Orleans decided to let him try to catch on somewhere else.

The Chicago Bears have a backup for Jay Cutler and it’s not Jordan Palmer. Clausen gets the nod and Palmer heads over to the Buffalo Bills.

Jay Feely was released by the Arizona Cardinals.
