College Football – A Topsy Turvy Weekend

by on October 12, 2008 updated October 12, 2008

College football is having one heck of a year. Upset after upset and I love it. To me, there’s nothing better than watching the improbable play itself out on the field and Saturday was a good day for it. To begin with, the Texas Longhorns, ranked #5 in the country, took on the Oklahoma Sooners and put a 45-35 whipping on the boys from Norman. Dancin Dave is probably curled up in a corner somewhere sucking his thumb.

Next up, Tim Tebow and the Florida Gators whipped on the defending BCS National Champion LSU Tigers 51-21.  Yes, you read that right, a 30 point drubbing of one of the better defenses in the country. The win puts Florida solidly in the running for an SEC Championship and will probably drop the Tigers several notches, possibly out of the Top Ten.

Finally, #3 Missouri took a loss at the hands of Oklahoma State, another unlikely loss. Altogether we could see a complete remix of the polls that results in another upset weekend next week. These days it just doesn’t pay to be ranked. Better to muck around in the mud before lurching out in the last week of the season.
