Coming off the World Series it was easy to envision the New York Yankees riding the wave in the AL East. Though the Red Sox have had their moments in the sun, visions of a new Yankee Dynasty had to be dancing in the heads of fans with Yankees tickets. Surely the hated Red Sox could be dealt with in due course.
But almost 60 games into the season the New York Yankees find themselves in the peculiar position of trailing in the AL East, not to Boston, but to the Tampa Bay Rays. I don’t think I saw this coming. And while the Yankees have been pretty good in Yankee Stadium (19-7), they’ve been so-so on the road (16-15). The Rays on the other hand have been strikingly good away from home, posting a 22-8 record. It could be the ticket to winning the AL East as the season progresses. Stay tuned.Eric Drouant
