T.O. On the Road Again

The nomadic NFL life of T.O. continues for the 2010 NFL season. the Buffalo Bills have decided to part ways with the mercurial receiver, allowing him to move on to the next NFL team willing to take a chance. Right now that looks like it could be the Baltimore Ravens. It may not be a bad move as Baltimore has been looking for a big play pass catcher for the last few seasons. The question is whether that pass catcher is T.O.

On the plus side, Owens enjoyed a somewhat productive year in an anemic Buffalo Bills offense. My belief is that while he can no longer be a superstar producer, Owens may have enough left to keep a defense aware of him and take some pressure off of the parts of the offense. Pro Bowl years are probably behind him, but T.O. can still garner some attention.

NFL Tickets – Overtime Changes?

Here’s a rule change by the NFL that I think I could agree with. It’s being reported that the NFL is considering a change to the overtime format that would allow each time at least one possession. I think that’s a good thing. Too many NFL games are being decided by a coin toss in the current overtime format. Although my New Orleans Saints were the beneficiary of this at some point last season, I just believe a win is too hard to get in the NFL just on a lucky guess.

With each NFL team being given one offensive possession, that problem is solved. It also brings up an array of challenges for the coaching staff. Go all out for the touchdown or just gamble on the field goal? Coaches with their back to the wall will have to be better than the guy on the other side. I hope this new NFL overtime rule goes through.

March Madness Looms – Syracuse Orange

As the spectre of March Madness and the Final Four begin to move into our minds, crowding out the Super Bowl and the yet unfinished NBA season, I’m beginning to think the Syracuse Orangemen have a good shot to end up in the last quarter.

Their recent win over then #8 Villanova displayed a deep and talented team running at peak efficiency. The win over the Villanova Wildcats, coupled with losses by Kansas and Kentucky, puts Syracuse in excellent position to move up in the polls. Syracuse is a basketball team that wasn’t really expected to be this good. That makes for very good press, exciting story lines, and lots of press attention as the Orangemen move into contention for the Final Four. can the dream season happen? Stay tuned.

Aerosmith Tickets – Good News

It went over well at my house, anyway. the news that Aerosmith tickets would soon hit the market I mean. my wife has been looking for Aerosmith to tour in our area for some time but she insisted that it had to be with Steven Tyler. No substitutes allowed. I nknow that some bands have made the transition to a new singer with some success but to me the voice of a band is unique. Instrument players can be replaced in most cases but the qualities in a voice can’t really be duplicated. That’s why, to me Journey isn’t Journey with Steve Perry. With Tyler joining Aerosmith again, all is well in the Aerosmith world.

Waiting for Godot – I Mean Favre-O

Almost everyone remembers the famous play “Waiting for Godot” from high school. I personally thought it was stupid but that’s just me. The NFl version of “Waiting for Godot” is now being played out once again bt the Minnesota Vikin gs and it’s once again all about Brett Favre. For the last decade it seems we’ve all been subjected to the “Will Brett Favre retire ?” fiasco and apparently 2010 will be no different.

The Minnesota Vikings got their moneys worth out of Brett Favre last season, as the aging QB took them all the way to the NFC Championship before falling to the New Orleans Saints on an interception thrown by ……Brett Favre. The problem is that the Saints really beat hell out of Favre in that game and I believe his family didn’t like it one bit. The guy could retire this time. But you won’t find out about it tll half the training camp is over and Brett deems it the right time to announce his royal decision.

Charlotte Bobcats – Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan was the king of the NBA during his time. He ignited the Chicago Bulls to unprecedented success, won the NBA Championship repeatedly, and became the face of the league. But retirement, at least his last retirement from playing, apparently hasn’t been challenging enough. It’s almost inevitable that Jordan would seek new challenges and now he has.

Michael Jordan has reached an agreement to purchase the Charlotte Bobcats, or at least a controlling interest. It’s a big leap of faith on Jordan’s part as the Charlotte Bobcats have been filling volumes of red ink. Can Jordan turn around a franchise struggling both on and off the court? He’s certainly got the reputation of a winner, but his off the court influence on other franchises has not been that great. Maybe he just needed to be in total control. We’ll see.

Nobody Named Norv – Part III

I’ve just finished a little reading on the NFL. I happened to peruse the San Diego Chargers website fan website Bolts From the Blue and on it there’s an article debating the merits of Norv Turner. In my excitement over the Saints winning the Super Bowl, I forgot about my annual Norv Turner – San Diego Chargers prediction.

While the article went into pretty good detail about the benefits and shortcomings of Norv Turner, my prediction is pretty simple. NOBODY NAMED NORV WILL WIN THE SUPER BOWL. That’s in a nutshell. I’ve made this prediction every season since Norv went to the San Diego Chargers and I’ve still correctumundo. Norv’s a great guy and a good coach. He’s just got the wrong name.

Celtics and Lakers

In another classic contest, the Boston Celtics edged past the Los Angeles Lakers by a single point in an 87-86 contest Thursday night. This latest version of a Lakers – Celtics rivalry shows signs of once again breeding a head on collision in the NBA playoffs.

Both the Lakers and Celtics have made a habit out of winning, albeit with different styles. Los Angeles has more flash the Celtics more meat, a reflection of the cities they call home. But both have a long tradition of winning in the NBA and both are clearly among the top teams in their divisions. It just seems inevitable that any matchup between these two is merely a prelude for when the NBA Championship is up for grabs.

Super Bowl Teams Big Questions

Making the Super Bowl is a lot of hard work. Countless decisions along the way affect not only the current season but upcoming seasons as well. And the years following a Super Bowl berth have not been kind. It’s not unusual for a team to miss the playoffs after a Super Bowl.

For the New Orleans Saints the most obvious question is Reggie Bush. Due an $8 million dollar season in 2010, Reggie Bush offers a huge potential but so far in his career has yet to prove he’s worth the big contract. Explosive at times and pedestrian at others, Bush is at a crossroads. The general feeling around the Saints is that Reggie bush will be back but it’s not a lock. Renegotiation would help his cause. With the Saints, Bush has a coach who likes him, a possible Hall of Fame QB, and a team that can certainly be a contender for many years. Hitting the road, especially for a team like the Seattle Seahawks, probably means a long dry spell while rebuilding.

The Indianapolis Colts also have their work cut out for them. Defensively the Colts need help in the secondary and on the line to help stop the run. The offense is in good hands with Manning and a young crop of receivers, but an explosive running back could be in the cards. More defense could have put the Colts on top in the Super Bowl. What nobody is saying is that the Colts played a very conservative game in the Super Bowl where taking a chance, especially late in the second quarter, may have made the difference. So a mindset change may also be in the works for Indianapolis.

Tiger Woods Return

Oh, for the good old days. Those fine days when Tiger Woods was a fine upstanding citizen and Golf was sacred. You know, besides John Daly, golfers were a pretty straight laced group, certainly not like NFL players or NBA players, always getting their tails in a crack over something or other. And Tiger Woods seemed to be the purest of them all. The guy just won every tournament he played in, never crossed any moral lines.

Then we found out different. The whole golf world collapsed, Tigers marriage looked like it’s crumbling and who knew what lay around the corner. Well, Tiger Woods is back after apologizing but he’s no longer in a great position. He’s got the eyes of the world watching and not in a good way. The press just wants him to screw up again and the moral dogs of society want him to stumble. The Return of Tiger Woods is going to be rough.
