Fed-Meister On Top in Australian Open

G’Day mates! Roger Federer is prving the value of hard work as he advances to the finals of the Australian Open by whupping Andy Roddick. Fed-Man has his sights set on beating the tar out of either Rafeal Nadal or Fernando Verdasco in the finals. Having endured a training regimen specifically designed to foil lefthanders, Federer is in good shape to bring home his fifth win at the Australian Open. Next stop for Federer is the French Open where girls are girls and men are welldressed and speak with funny accents.

Working Class Super Bowl Tickets

For the first time in awhile Super Bowl tickets are within reach of the average working Joe. Certainly the economic crisis has taken it’s toll on many of us. BUT, unemployment is still below 10% which means most of us are still on pretty solid ground. If you’re in that class it’s your chance to get a once in a lifetime experience. In past years Super Bowl tickets could run 5K or more a seat. For the 2009 Super Bow good seats are available for less than half that figure.

Besides that startling fact, has there been a Super Bowl that reflects the average Joe more than this one? The Pittsburgh Steelers are the epitome of working class sweat while the Arizona cardinals have been down for so long nobody can believe they’re even in a Super Bowl. Lightning isn’t likely to strike twice. Get your Super Bowl tickets now.

Golf Tickets – Victory for the Obstetrically Challenged (and other stupid thoughts)

In the newly launched Brasil Open on the pro golf circuit, Catriona Mathew has made her mark by shooting a 3-under 69 in the last round to claim a win. The catch? Mathews is five months pregnant with her second child. Take that Angelina Jolie.

Elsewhere, we find ourselves craving Buick Invitational tickets, as this shindig gets underway at Torrey Pines in early Feb. Still in California, we’ll set our eyes on Pebble Beach for the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am, where governor Terminator is almost certain to make an appearance, blowing up bad guys and the occasional Democrat. From Cali, it’s just a short siesta plane trip down to sunny Mexico, where you’ll have a chance to see the Mayakoba Golf Classic in Quintana Roo. Have a Dos Equis for me.

Tennis – Australian Open Begins February

The Australian Open is shaping up into a predictable outcome as Rafa Nadal proceeds through the also rans without dropping a set. On the women’s side, Jelena Docik is making waves by playing good tennis, and bringing her rascaly father along for the ride. cell phone carriers beware. This guy is no friend of Verizon.

The Australian Open is only the beginning of tennis in February, If you want to catch a good time, score Dubai Tennis Championships tickets. I loved my time in Dubai. While I was unable to tour the country, watch tennis, or see any of the mega-attractions this money imbued country has to offer, I was allowed to drink three beers a day.

If Dubai is a little too much, you can look forward to March and the Sony Ericsson Open in beautiful Miami where the shade under the palm trees is cool and the tennis will be hot.

My Ticket Home

I’ve been overseas. In a war zone. For a year. Less R & R. I’m heading home and I’ve got plans. While I’d like Super Bowl tickets I won’t make it home in time.

 I’ve opted for the following:

Hornets Tickets – Finally my hometown has a team that contends. But I have to say the New Orleans Saints do dish out some hope now.

Britney Spears Tickets – I have three daughters. What else can I say?

Nickelback Tickets – For my wife.

Robin Williams Tickets – These are for me.

B.B. King Tickets – The House of Blues, B.B., and a cold beer.

Unforunately I’ll miss Better Than Ezra while I’m in Disneyworld. You can’t have it all.

College Basketball – The King is Dead (Again)

Last week in my blog about college basketball I made mention of the fact that it’s pretty much totally useless to have “experts” picking the rankings on college basketball teams. Or any other sport for that matter. But let’s stick to college basketball. The Wake Forest Demon Deacons were offered as my next choice to get the dreaded #1 ranking. Sure enough they got it. And sure enough, they’ve lost it.

The Demon Deacons ran up an impressive 16-0 record before the coronation. That’s certainly indicative of a good team and they deserved the recognition. However, a week has passed, and the Wake Forest Demon Deacons have been de-throned by the Virginia Tech Hokies. Surely now someone will realize that the best team in the country will emerge from the Final Four won’t they? In the meantime, if you’re a college basketball coach, avoid the #1 ranking like the plague.

The MLB – Batting Around Some Ideas

OK, the major controversy now in the MLB is which bat to use. Players have always decided pretty much on their own, their preference of bat, as loing as it was within the limitations of the rules. Since Barry Bonds of the San Francisco Giants switched to a maple bat, other players have done the same. The result? Well, it seems there is some feeling that maple bats tend to splinter more easily, a fact denied by the makers.

Now the MLB has decreed some guidelines, such as using the bat with the label affixed to the edge grain. Every baseball player in the world has been taught to hit the ball opposit the label so we’re talking major change here. How will it all end? How does anything end? Lawsuits, insults, complaints, and finally a shrug of the shoulders and acceptance. If that’s the way it is that’s the way it is. Only the next year will tell us who is right or wrong, if anybody.

NBA All Stars – Decked OUT

NBA All Star Tickets have been delivering the goods for many years. The chance to see all your favorite players occupying one court is something most NBA fans can’t pass up. The 2009 NBA All Star Game, slated for Phoenix in Mid-February, will throw in a little fashion frenzy for those lucky enough to be in attendance. The NBA has announced that the NBA All Stars will be attired in “futuristic” uniforms. So, if you’re still scraping around for a solid reason to convince your wife why you should be at the NBA All Star Game, now you’ve got it. What woman wouldn’t want to be on the leading edge of fashion knowledge?

Arizona is HOT! Slightly Stoopid and Cage Rage

Take a look at what’s been going on in Arizona as of late. The first thing on everyone’s mind of course is that the Arizona Cardinals are going to the Super Bowl. This comes one year after University of Phoenix hosted the big game. But wait! There’s more!

A gander at the calendar of events coming to Tucson is pretty impressive.

Slightly Stoopid - If you haven’t yet had the chance to catch this California based do it all band, take it now. Slightly Stoopid tickets will get you into the Rialto Theatre for their show in February. the same Rialto Theatre is bringing in DeVotchKa and Andrew Bird later in the month.

For the more pugilistically inclined, take a pass on DeVotchka and head over to Tucson’s Desert Diamond Casino for the latest bloodmatch of Rage in the Cage, one of the better classes of cage fighting.

NBA – Mid-Season – Parity? What’s that?

Time for some teams to hang it up only halfway through the season. Here’s my take:

Boston Celtics – The rest of the Atlantic Division is fighting for scraps. Barring an 0-41 finish the Celtics will be in the playoffs.

Cleveland Cavaliers - The juggernaut that is Cleveland will continue to roll. The Pistons? An unbelievable, record shattering, myth creating run might do it.

Orlando Magic – A nine game lead in the Southeast isn’t magic. It’s just good basketball in a mediocre division.

Southwest Division – Now here’s an interesting group of teams. The New Orleans Hornets, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks, and Houston Rockets are all within a few games of each other and all fully capable of winning the division. Too bad they aren’t spread out amongst the rest of the NBA.

Denver Nuggets – Currently leading the Northwest with the Utah Jazz right on their tails. Could get interesting.

LA Lakers – Is there ever a time when the Lakers aren’t in the mix? They are in their usual Pacific division spot.
