College Basketball – The Early Contenders

With football season still underway don’t forget about college basketball. The early returns are in and polls are already listing the top teams in 20007. Pundits are pointing to:

North Carolina Tarheels – After making the Elite Eight, the Tarheels return enough top players to be listed among the elite of college basketball.

UCLA Bruins – UCLA is running a close second among coaches.

Memphis Tigers – Coming out of Conference USA the Memphis Tigers were somewhat of a surprise to me. But Memphis Tigers tickets should be a great college basketball ticket, with games against USC, Gonzaga, and Tennessee on the slate.

Kansas Jayhawks – Advancing to the West Regional Final last season, the Kansas Jayhawks are listed as #4 in the polls I’ve seen.

Interesting NOTE: Florida and Ohio State are unranked.

NFL Tickets in Europe

It seems we’re entering a new era in football. The NFL is holding it’s first regular season game in London this week, featuring the Miami Dolphins and the New York Giants. While I had serious doubts about the venture, considering the demise of the junior league, it seems that Europeans do have a taste for NFL tickets. 86,000 seats were sold for this matchup in London’s Wembley Stadium.

While it seems the United States may be losing it’s hold on the gridiron, I still have my doubts. Soccer is so huge in Europe the NFL faces major competition. My belief is that American football faces rough going overseas. Soccer, while enjoyed by many ij the U.S., has yet to become a major force over here. The NFL faces a similiar situation in Europe. The novelty may sell tickets for a one time gig but on a weekly basis it’s going to a hard row to hoe. On the other hand, I once predicted that Milli Vanilli would be the next Rolling Stones.

Garbled Thoughts on Sports Tickets -My Questions?

Can Giants ticket holders end their love of Barry Bonds and Giants Stadiun be the scene of peace and tranquilty as Barry leaves or will there be mass hari-kara with fans clutching their Giants tickets as they herd themselves, lemming like, into the bay?

Will Jeff Gordon continue to place highly and win the Nextel Cup almost by default? The Checker Auto Parts 500 and the Ford  400 are Gordon’s only opportunities to claim the flag.

Boston College may get their first letdown of the year against Virginia Tech.

USC is actually an underdog against Oregon

Th New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts meet Nov 4th. Say no more.

Lakers Tickets – Kobe Ain’t No Yogi

“When you’re part of a team you stand up for your teammates. Your loyalty is to them.” – Yogi Berra

All fans with Lakers tickets should be sending the preceeding quote to Kobe Bryant. For years now the whining superstar has been a crowd favorite and deservedly so. During that time Kobe Bryant has been the heart and soul of the Lakers. But he’s made the mistake of elevating himself above the team and the city that’s made him rich beyond belief. OK, so times are tough right now. The Lakers probably won’t win another NBA Championship in their present form. Loyalty however, runs both ways and Bryant needs to realize that rather than pulling a cut and run, he could provide some leadership and put the Lakers back in contention. Doesn’t he owe it to the fans and his teammates?

World Series – Can Boston Do it Again?

I can’t answer that question. Having given the Boston Red Sox up for dead once already I’m apparaently not qualified. What I will say is that if the Red Sox do pull it off it will be one of the more amazing feats in sports this year. But with the Sox having pulled out another improbable American League Championship you can’t call it over as long as there’s a single out remaining.

What the Red Sox will see is a Colorado Rockies team embarked on an amazing win streak. The Rockies will be well t rested and confident. Remember, this is the team that went into Fenway and outscored Boston 20-5 during th summer. The fabled Green Mpster holds no mysteries for Colorado. The big question is: Are the Rockies standing between the Red Sox and history or is Boston going to be just anothet notch on the gun of the hottest team in baseball?

This is the World Series. Magic Awaits.

Boston Still Battling – Game 7 Awaits

After dropping three games, the Boston Red Sox are still battling. Game 6, another chapter in the legend of Curt Schilling, was a free for all. Schilling held the Cleveland Indians to a pair of runs and six hits while his teammates took Carmona to the shed in a 12-2 win. J. D. Drew finally camne through for the Red Sox, silencing his critics with a Grand Slam in the 1st to set the tone for the night.

To be truthful, I had given Boston up for dead. Now we’re looking at a Game 7 that promises to be memorable. We’ve been treated (or subjected depending on how you look at it) to almost nothing but sweeps this year in the MBL Playoffs. Now Boston and Cleveland offer up a decisive Game 7 that means the World Series or a ticket home.

NFL Tickets: The View from the Bottom

It’s Sunday morning and I’m looking over the list of NFL games to be played later on in the day. It’s amazing how the perspective changes in just a few short weeks. Here’s my take on some of the biggest surprises NFL tickets have laid on us in 2007.

Chicago Bears tickets looked like a sure thing again in 2007. The Beras came into the season the undisputed favorite in the NFC North. Surely the Packers, Lions, and Vikings had no chance. But in Week 7, Green Bay Packers tickets have been the class of the division while the Bears are 2-4 and freezing in the basement.

Is it over already for the Philadelphia Eagles? The Cowboys are 5-1 and Eli Manning and the New York Giants are 4-2. McNabb looks like a shell of his former self, with only one good game to his credit.

The New Orleans Saints looked unstoppable in pre-season. They’ve been anything but. Maybe last week’s win over the Seahawks will spark something. The Saints have probably the easiest task to get back on track with the Falcons and Panthers looking weak and Tampa Bay still unproven in many areas. If it’s going to happen though, the winning streak has to start now.

Ohio State Buckeyes Getting Shaky?

The Ohio State Buckeyes have moved up to the top of the BCS polls of late, an Buckeyes ticket holders are eyeing up a BCS National Championship. But if I was an Ohio State fan I’d be getting nervous about occupying a top spot in the polls. If there’s ever been a year to make a late rally and claim the throne at the end of the college football season this is it.

Over the last few weeks we’ve seen USC, LSU, and South Carolina fall to unranked teams. This last weekend the Buckeyes looked rattled but still held on to a 24-17 win over Michigan State. Not looking good is still a crime with the BCS. More to the point, in a season of fallen heroes, can Ohio State remain the last great hope?

Falling Like Flies

As i enough hasn’t happened in 2007, college football tickets delivered another upset this weekend, in a year already distinguished by an unmatvhed series of stunners. The #6 South Carolina Gamecocks and Steve Spurrier took it on the chin with a 17-6 loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores. The Gamecocks built a 17-0 lead by halftime and then used a series of turnovers by their maligned defense to shut down The Old Ball Coach and a turnstile of quarterbacks.

By my count that’s a dozen upsets of top ranked teams so far in 23007. It seems like hanging around the top of the BCS poll isn’t a real healthy thing to do. Where will it all end? In more controversy over the selection of the #1 and #2 teams to meet in the BCS Championship. Unless Ohio State can roll through undefeated, the kings of college football have their work cut out for them.

Van Halen Tickets are Back and so is David

Not only are Van Halen tickets back but so is David Lee Roth. Sorry Sammy, but I never felt it was the same Van Halen without David. The announvement of a cross country tour, and a fairly extensive one, is good news for us old codgers who can remember the impact Van Halen had on us when they first got big. I’m looking forward to Roth’s antics and hope the boys can keep from strangling each other before they hit my hometown.
