Week 1: Top College Football Tickets

Oklahoma State at Georgia Tickets: In one of the best match-ups of the opening weekend, the high-scoring Cowboys from Stillwater visit Sanford Stadium to tangle with Mark Richt’s Bulldogs.

Georgia Tech at Notre Dame Tickets: Last year, Brady Quinn and the Irish overcame a 10-point deficit to upend the Yellow Jackets in Atlanta. Georgia Tech’s out for revenge.

Tennessee at California Tickets: The Volunteers rocked Cal last season. But that game was in Knoxville. Now, Tennessee heads into the Bears’ den.

Kansas State at Auburn Tickets: The Wildcats from the Big 12 can put up points in a hurry, but can they do it against the Tigers from the SEC?

Chevy Rock and Roll 400 tickets

To me, Chevy Rock and Roll 400 tickets are the must have NASCAR tickets of the season before you hit the Chase for the Nextel Cup. It’s at Richmond that the knife edge of doom falls for the leftovers and the joy of possibility opens up for the chosen few. It’s also a great party. The season is heading into the final burst, the rhetoric is finished, and it’s do or die time for the final cut.

Dale earnhardt fans are doomed to dissapointment again. Kevin Harvick, Martin Truex Jr., and Kurt Busch are locked into an epic battle for the finals spots in the Chase. Mark your calendar for Sep. 8th. Then the fun begins all over again.

Young Frankenstein

My brother just came back from a vacation to New York celebrating his 25th anniversary. Never having been to a Broadway ply he arranged to see Young Frankenstein, the musical based on the Mel Brooks movie with Gene Wilder.  He chose Young Frankenstein because he liked the movie and wanted to see what it was like as a live performance. He called me up raving about it, saying it was better than the movie.

If you happen to be in New York you can catch this at the Hilton Theatre New York. On the West Coast it’s at the Paramount Theatre.

Dancin Dave’s Fantasy Draft

So I took Reggie Bush with the third overall pick of my fantasy football draft. I chose Bush over Joseph Addai. My reasoning stemmed from the facts that:
1. Bush was a superstar on a loaded USC team, while Addai split time at LSU.
2. We get points for kick return touchdowns. While Bush may get only two or three of those, it definitely added to his value.
3. We also get points for receptions. Bush is much more of a weapon in the receiving game than Addai.
Still, most people probably think taking Bush third overall in a 14-team draft is way too early. But I have major doubts about Larry Johnson and Frank Gore. Therefore, Bush or Addai, in my eyes, had the biggest chance for a huge season.
Wish me luck and buy New Orleans Saints tickets, Kansas City Chiefs tickets, Indianapolis Colts tickets and San Francisco 49ers tickets to see if I made the right decision.

Eric’s AFC Picks

New England Patriots Tickets – Come on. Who else were you expecting? The Patriots moves in the off-season have made them even more formidable. The only more productive time off came from Tom Brady’s fertility clinic franchise.

Cincinnati Bengals Tickets – Everyone keeps picking the Ravens. But as the Bengals change their uniforms from Tiger stripes to prison stripes the intimidation factor comes into play. Seriously, I just think Cincinnati has too much potential to be long denied.

Indianapolis Colts Tickets – Another no brainer. The Colts will win the AFC South but not back to back Super Bowls. Sorry. Breaking News: Congress has just passed a bill limiting the number of Payton Manning commercial that can be aired during a single game. There’s rioting in Indy and rejoicing in the rest of the galaxy. Come on Payton, isn’t a gazillion dollars enough?

Denver Broncos Tickets –  This pick may come as a surprise. San Diego is everyone’s darling. But after a careful analysis of the rosters, comparitive studies of the personnel matchups, endless computer scannings of the inherent physical traits of both players and facilities, and extensive psychiatric forensics, the answer is clear: Nobody named Norv can win in the NFL. Check it out. In the whole history of the NFL not one single person named Norv has ever won a Super Bowl. Eerie isn’t it?

DISCLAIMER: Eric reserves the rights to change his picks at any time and will probably do so after the final results are in.

Eric’s NFC Picks

Contemplating which NFL tickets you’ll be getting this year? If you have to pick and choose here’s my choices for the NFC. If any of these team are coming to your home stadium get your tickets now.

New Orleans Saints Tickets – From all indications in the pre-season this is going to be an absolute juggernaut of an offense. Drew Brees is a freakin’ machine and the depth at wide receiver is tremendous. Two of the top running backs in the league and an improved defense make the Saints a must see.

San Francisco 49ers Tickets – The 49ers are rising stars. Frank Gore is a pound it out running back. A beast. Alex Smith is coming into his own. The 49ers defense is improving. I know everyone loves the Seahawks in the NFC West but I think the game is over.

Chicago Bears Tickets – I’m recomending the Bears because of the defense. I also think it’s a good chance to see a team win in spite of it’s quarterback. Grossman is either very very good or very very bad. No in between. My friends in Chicago are being driven slowly insane. I call them on Monday mornings and find them sobbing incoherently.

Philadelphia Eagles Tickets - I think McNabb will shut everyone up. But truthfully this division is wide open. That being said, Romo isn’t a savior and neither is Wade Philips. T.O. isn’t done dismantling this team. Coughlin has lost all credibility in New York and will soon be seen wandering the streets of the Big Apple with a quizzical look on his face and a tin cup. Joe Gibbs should go back to NASCAR and let Dan Snyder blow more money on Bill Cowher. As long as Andy Reid keeps his kids out of the training room the Eagles will finish on top.

Mountaineers have easier path to climb than USC

Here’s the problem with preseason college football polls. I’m not sure what they mean.
Do the polls represent which team the media and/or coaches believe will win the national championship? If that’s the case, you better hurry up and get some USC Trojans tickets.
But not so fast, as that college football guy says.
Indeed, the Trojans are loaded on both sides of the ball. But Pete Carroll’s bunch doesn’t exactly have an easy path to earn their BCS Championship Game tickets.
Before they can even consider making their reservations for New Orleans, they must contend with road games at Nebraska and Notre Dame, not to move a much-improved Pac-10 conference.
With that knowledge, maybe you should start considering West Virginia Mountaineers tickets. They’ve got a much easier path the Louisiana Superdome, site of the BCS Championship Game.

The Song Remains the Same

I’ve been watching some of the NFL pre-season games when I get a chance and here’s what strikes me. The Indianapolis Colts will once again be a terrific offense carrying along a mediocre defense. Could they get lucky again? Certainly. But don’t mortgage the house on it. All the stars were in alignment in 2006 and that celestial confluence won’t happen again. Playoffs? Yes. Super Bowl? No.

From what I can see of the Chicago Bears they also remain the same. Great defense and schizo quarterback. Really, have you ever seen a guy so up and down as Rex Grossman? If I lived in Chicago I would have ripped my hair out by now. No Super Bowl for the Bears either.

Who am I liking? I don’t really have a clear favorite. I’ll have to get back to you on that. But it’s much easier to say who’s not going than who’s going so I took the easy route tonight.

Fantasy Football Advice

I have the third overall pick in my fantasy football draft. Who should I pick?
Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson will be the top pick, followed likely by Rams‘ RB Steven Jackson.
That leaves me with Kansas City RB Larry Johnson. While Johnson is the biggest reason to check out Chiefs tickets, he hasn’t stepped onto the practice field yet and continues to hold out, waiting for a better contract.
I fully expect Johnson to sign and go on to have a productive year. But the Chiefs, on the other hand, will likely struggle on offense with either quarterback Damon Huard or second-year pro Brody Croyle at the helm.
One of my biggest factors involved in making sound fantasy football selections is picking players on good teams. So that’s why I’m little skeptical about picking Johnson with the No. 3 pick.
My first option is to trade down, thus improving my draft position in the second and third rounds, while still getting a solid starting running back.
Or I might just take New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush or Indianapolis Colts RB Joseph Addai. We gets points for receptions and for return yardage, which makes players like Bush more valuable.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Vick’s NFL Ticket Cancelled and Other Various and Sundry NFL Thoughts

For Michael Vick, 2007 just keeps getting darker. Fans with Atlanta Falcons tickets should be banking on that tremendous running game of the past few years and the genius of their new coach. It doesn’t look like wonder boy will be tossing any boquets this season. Vick’s friends are scurrying like cockroaches to rat on their former cash cow, leaving Michael holding the bag. You’re looking at what may be the ignoble end to a promising career.

Meanwhile in other NFL news, it’s going to be interesting to see the reception Trent Green gets when he returns to play his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs, this week. Green never looked the same after his concussion last season and certainly hasn’t shone in the pre-season but it’s still early and he certainly has the pedigree. Wouldn’t it be nice to see him light it up in KC? I always love the revenge factor.

The Philadelphia Eagles are experiencing a flurry of injuries. Only the return of McNabb highlights a so far tenuos pre-season.

Questions for the week:

Will Thomas Jones be a bust for the Jets?(Injury) Or will he heal quickly and, along with a healthy Chad Pennington, lead New York Jets ticket holders to the promised land? Just asking. I really want to know. Dancin Dave?

How long will Larry Johnson hold out and can Priest Holmes return with a vengeance for the Kansas City Chiefs?

With the season ending injury to Kenny Irons will the Cincinnati Bengals be thwarted before the season even starts?

Will fans with Oakland Raiders tickets ever get to see JaMarcus Russell? Or will Russell hold out until playing this season is pointless? Coaching tip: If Russell does sign late throw him in there behind what may be the NFL’s worst line and let him take a few hits. Just for fun.
