Man, it seems like it’s been forever since the San Francisco 49ers have been mentioned as a possible NFL playoff team. It may still be too early to be talking about it but that’s never stopped me before. This partly because the 49ers have been playing good football so far in 2009 and partly because the NFC West has been such a weak sister in the conference.
San Francisco is now 2-0, with a win over Super Bowl participant and defending NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals and another over the Seattle Seahawks. While 49ers fans are flying high and even mentioning Super Bowl in the same breath as their team, they have a tough test coming up this week against the Minnesota Vikings. A win would be a big boost for San Francisco while a loss would bum out some fans, but not be a playoff buzzkill. I think this is just a litmus test for how far the 49ers have come and how far they still have to go.
