The San Francisco 49ers went into Carolina against a Panthers team that has gone 11-1 over their last 12 games and got it done. After staking out a 13-10 lead at the half, Colin Kaepernick took a run to the left into the endzone and put Carolina away after a skimpy first half in which neither team seemed to be able to get much going.
The Carolina Panthers have been winning with defense and late surges from Cam Netwon. they got the defensive part down today, holding the 49ers in check for the first half. 13-10 is a good position to ne in when you’re playing in your home stadium and Cam Netwton is waiting to break out. But the breakout never came. Instead, the 49ers defense held Carolina to three points on two goal line stands. the killing blow came as Donte Whitner came up with a late game interception off of Newton, who seemed confused at times and brilliant at others.
The win sets up a classic rematch with the Seattle Seahawks for San Francisco, a team they know well. Both Seattle and the 49ers are in the NFC West and have met twice this season already, splitting victories. Now Kaepernick and his 49ers will have to face the huge task of winning in CenturyLink, where Seattle has been almost unbeatable and the celebrated 12th man has been know to change the outcome of games.
