The 2014 Tennessee Titans should be a changed team. The franchise is now operating under new management at all levels. Long time owner Bud Adams is gone, though the Titans still are owned by the Adams family. In addition, that new ownership took a bold move, firing Mike Munchak and making what may have been the best coaching move of the offseason, the hiring of Ken Whisenhunt. The new coach has been around the nFL on several levels. He was an assistant coach when the Steelers won a Super Bowl. As head coach of the Arizona Cardinals, he took his team to another Super Bowl. he’s also been one of the better offensive coordinators in the NFL. Ken Whisenhunt has been around.
The Titans will be relying heavily on the run, working behind an offensive line that features a number of high draft picks and a Pro Bowl tackle. All that protection should allow Shonn Greene and Bishop Sankey to take some pressure off of quarterback Jake Locker, perhaps the biggest project Whisenhunt has on his plate. Locker still has something to prove, a #1 draft choice who hasn’t lived up to his billing….yet.
The bird’s eye view of the 2014 Tennessee Titans is one of change. Whisenhunt must change the face of the franchise, either with Locker or another quarterback if Locker can’t make the grade. With 21 wins in three seasons, the Titans have been close, but not good enough. It’s time to change that and push the win total into double digits, or at least above .500. Tennessee may not be poised to take the AFC South away from the Colts but if all goes according to plan, they should compete for a playoff spot.
